Where are the best places for sightseeing, shopping and eating out?

What are the best buys?

Can you find a quiet patch of beach easily for a spot of relaxation?

What sort of water sports are available?

Are the Bahamas too touristy or are there hidden gems to visit?

Hello nessie..
well, a lot of people go to Atlantis hotel for the day..www.atlantis.com

you can buy a pass ($29.) for it, but they are hard to come by. As they only sell them if they are not full with paying guests.
My understanding is that even with the pass you are not allowed to use any of the hotel facilities, beach, pools, etc.

A lot of people go to the nearby Cabbage beach on paradise island and enjoyed it.
each time I have been there.. the ship has only been in port for a few hours, so we went to the straw market, and to the bar up past it.. Margaritaville or jimmy buffets?? one of those type :D and then went back to the ship.

Not too much to see in Nassau, The Straw Market is your biggest attraction, where you purchase local handicraft, Tee shirts, Tie-dyed evening dresses etc. There are very nice hotels on Cable Beach such as Beaches, and Wyndham Nassau Resort, and a Casino at the Wyndham, Crystal Palace Casino. Atlantis Hotel and Resort on Paradise Island, which is connected to New Providence Island (Nassau) by bridge, is a Luxury Hotel & Resort. There is a massive aquarium in the lobby with every type of marine life in it.
The only other island I've been to is Grand Bahama Island in the mid 90s, and we were at Port Lucaya. Excellent beaches there.

We did a Stingray swim while in Nassau. We took a ferry to Blue Lagoon and enjoyed the swim in a closed off netted area and then had a nice BBQ and fun in the Lagoon area. It was very nice. We enjoyed this excursion alot.

Well on my cruise in March, they are offering the following excursions for Nassau, which would you say would be the best...I am not a beach person though.....?

The prices are pretty reasonable too, more than can be said for some cruise lines

I shall be in port from 0800 til 2359 and its a Monday.

Ally, it's hard for me to say which is the best as they all look good. We did the first one, NASSAU CITY & PARADISE ISLAND, but it also included part of the second tour, the 66 steps named after Queen Victoria, and we went inside the lobby of the Atlantis Resort and I enjoyed it. The second tour replaces Paradise Island, so if you don't like getting close to Dolphins or getting in a smaller glass-bottomed boat, any of the first two is fine.

Thanks for your thoughts on that Ken, much appreciated :)

Its a good job I have a few months to decide really, as you say, they all have merits to them.

One thing I won't do though is set my heart on any of them, as we all know, itineraries can change so I am likely to make my final choices the day before arrival :)
