10 large so called "longboats" are on order, of which four are being delivered in March 2012 in Holland, to be used on the River Rhine - Mosel - and Danube with the remaining 6 are to be delivered at a rate of 2 ships each year until 2014. Do you think they are ordering more just to update or to attract new customers? I don't know how popular river cruises are compared to regular ones, but river cruises always sounded interesting to me.

Here in Europe, River Cruising is indeed very popular. Not just for European ntionals it is, as amaWaterways, scenic tours and of course Viking are building more ships, with the first two mentioned are Australian companies. rhine, Mosel, donaube are the main rivers, cruises between Moscow and St.Petersburg (14 days) are very popular also, albeit the season is very short, like in Alaska. The river ships become more luxurious, larger Staterooms and much better service and food. There are a wide range of pices and comfort level to choose from 3* to 5* it's all there.

River cruising in Europe is very popular.

Passau on the River Danube, is building two addition berths, making a total of 15, it is not only a popular port of call but also a embarkaton / disembarkation port for cruises to the likes of Black Sea and Amsterdam.

Expecting a 10% increase this year with over 2000 boats and 240000 passengers.
