On behalf all those from Seacruise Thank You!

I was not one of the original gang but there are still several of the gang around. I started about 2 months after the channel came into being. I have personally met almost every one that has been part of Seacruise. I am only currently only missing 3 people.

I don't think I ever thought we would be around this long. I took over the webpage about 8 years ago and then the Channel about 4 years ago. It has been a fun time.

I think this forum will be around for a long time. I see a lot of the same quality in it as I did with Seacruise when I started. It is the people that belong to it and help run it that make the difference.

I know I wouldn't be here unless I thought it had something to offer and something I could offer it.

I think you and Jeff both learned how fun this form can be when you visited Wolfgang last summer. You got to meet someone who had been posting here and now put a face to him and a voice. It surely draws you closer.

Seacruise has people in the UK, Caribbean, US and Canada.
One of crew is in the far north of Canada in a place called Inuvik, NWT. There is even a map that one can look at to see where Chris lives. Currently the only way in or out of Inuvik is by flying till the ice bridge goes in. That should be soon. On about Dec 5th the sun will set for the last time for 31 days. They will have some twilight during mid day but no sun rise for this period. The good part is they have 61 days in the spring/summer of no sunset. I have met Chris and Bev here in Vancouver and Chris has long bugged me to drive north to visit him in the summer. I have driven to the NWT in the past and visited a long time child hood friend but I have not been that far north.
As Chris puts it there are only 2 season's Summer (bug season) and winter. I see it has warmed up today to -25 °C and foggy. Sunrise is at 12:18 PM today and Sunset at 15:07. Summers up there can be very warm with temps reaching into the low 30's C.

I have also manged to cruise a few times with some of the crew with the largest cruise back in January 2000 on Norwegian Sky with almost all the crew on that one.

Yes it is fun and I am enjoying my time here.

Thank you

Chris launches weather ballons twice a day. Let's see 0400 and 1600.

Bev is runs the town Library.

Oh yes when you get holidays there you get 2 days of travel added onto your holidays at each end because it takes so long to get out of the north even flying. They fly from Inuvik to Yellowknife to Edmonton then onto places south.

Oh did I say Chris enters online contests too? Let's see in the last year he has won a $1000 online shopping spree, a trip to Nassau and the Atlantis Casino (taking that next May and staying with me).
Oh yes did I say they got married on a cruise in a kilt?
Did I say shopping, how about $12- $14 for a gallon of milk right now. Did you know it is cheaper to buy beer than milk at this time of year? Beer stores milk doesn't. You do not look at prices in the north because if you did you couldn't afford it. I remember looking at prices when i was up there and $5 for a box of pop tarts, and that was 10 years ago. Fresh Veggies, what's that? Anything that isn't brown as Chris puts it.
You get the picture.

God, I love this site, where else can you go from Saint Maarten to Inuvik (and back) in a couple of minutes:) In Anne Morrow Lindburgh's "North to the Orient" she talks about flying into Aklavik - not so far away, in 1931. Just re-reading the chapter, now.

She mentions being served a sprig of parsley, grown on a windowsill, GARNISH, this was NOT!!!!!. Guess one learns to love powdered milk

Member outstanding Kansas Field

Okay, here we have a member in the wilds of Canada. Many people along the North Eastern Seaboard, England, etc.

Am I the only one in Kansas ? Wouldn't surprise me. I'll never get to meet anyone !

We keep cruising out of Florida. However, we go out of Long Beach next April.

Guess we need to cruise out of NY to see most of you....

I will not encourage you all to come have a meet in Kansas. Not sure what kind of entertainment I could offer around here and your cruise would have to be a Mississippi cruise.

Boo and Hoo !

Phil - congratulations on your wonderful site. And how equally wonderful that you have met most of the 'crew'.

Now - I'm wondering if this is too much of a coincidence??

In 1984 I was aboard P&O's 'Canberra" - Southampton to Sydney. One of my dinner tablemates was a Chris from Yellowknife, NWT !

As you can imagine, an Aussie doesn't get to meet too many people from NWT, and I seem to remember he wore a kilt on one of the formal nights. He disembarked in San Francisco.

Without being too intrusive....would he be (cough, cough) of the right age to have done that voyage??? Might not be, but what a major coincidence if it was???? :joy:

I don't recall Chris ever saying he had sailed P&O. If my mind serves me corretly his first cruise was his wedding which was Dec 1999?
I have sent him a message to ask him though.

Robyn the Siren

Ah-Ah !

There she goes again, trawling for young men . I had heard rumors but now it is out in the open.

I am calling the Captain on your upcoming cruise ! Na-Na !

He will hide all the young men from you.
