RPCS3 is a free multi platform emulator that's completely open-source. It only emulates PlayStation 3 games, but it has a lot of them available. It is primarily developed by two developers, Nekotekina and kd-11. It does not allow any PlayStation 3 peripheral control use as of today, but there are a good deal of usable gamepads available to play with, and most brands and types of controllers can be used to play each of the games. {To download, you will need a 64-bit version of either Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 9, or Windows 10. |} Modern versions of Linux should also be completely supported by RPCS3. It may also work with other hardware, even though Linux and Windows appear to be advocated (For a better gameplay experience). You can download RPCS3 from RPCS3 Emulator Download (Latest Version) — RPCS3 and install it following its instructions.

So as to install games, you will have to get them from either a physical PlayStation 3 console you have access to or from a Blu-ray drive, though only certain types of Blu-ray drives can be used to set up games to use with RPCS3. This can be inconvenient. According to the programmer, 1876 games are currently playable, which is an excellent amount if you are wanting to play a large number of different video games from a PlayStation 3 console in your computer. Right now, online multiplayer is unfortunately only available in a very small choice of games, which is inconvenient if you would like to play with someone that is not near you. This could be improved in the future, but as of right now it appears unlikely. Local multiplayer, though, is fortunately completely supported, meaning you can use it in most available multiplayer games that could have a local multiplayer option when playing on a real console. You may use up to 7 controllers at the same time, meaning you can play with a larger group of people if necessary. As of March 2020, there's now support offered for a number of PlayStation 3D games, which means you can play games that offer 3D capabilities (3D effects like the ones in 3D films ).
