Regency Cruises

It was 25 years ago that Regency Cruises made their first cruise with a second hand passenger ship.

This Greek owned cruise ship company was in business for about 11 years until going into liquidation in 1995.

All of the ships they operated were bought or leased from other companies and received a face lift before entering service.

The company did buy the unfinished hull of a ferry and had it brought to Greece to be finished as a cruise ship in 1989.

That ship which was to be named Regent Sky remains unfinished at the Greek ship builders yard and has recently been offered for sale.

Photos of some their ships below which were operated on cruises around the world.

Two photos below of the unfinished hull of what was to be the Regent Sky.

It has recently been advertised for sale at US $30 million !

The next photo shows her suggested appearence when completed.
It was thought she would be about 60,000 grt.

The last photo shows the Regency Cruises ship Regent Sea which was built as the Gripsholm and was a near sister ship to the cruise ship Mona Lisa.

Regent Sea sunk enroute to Alang to be broken up.

Hi Middy

Thought you might have been on those two !

Both ships are now owned by Louis Cruises group with the Calypso on charter to Thomson Cruises.

This year Emerald is undertaking cruises from Cyprus for Louis Cruises.

No news on Thomson having another adult only ship, when the Calypso charter is finished, but I think they might as P & O Cruises operate one of their ships as adults only so there is the demand for that type of cruising.
