Norwegian Dream

Norwegian Dream called at Gibraltar today enroute to Piraeus.

This ship was going to be bought by Louis Cruises but they then decided not to go ahead with the purchase.

It is not known why she is in the area but the NCL on the funnel has been removed..

Photo below of her at Gibraltar today from the port website.

Since the sale of her collapsed, she was to be sent back to Star Cruises, so chances are she was refuelling and then will continue to Singapore or Hong Kong for service with them or to be laid up.

There is talk on one of the shipping websites that the price for the Dream has dropped from US $ 218 million to about US $ 160 million so it is possible that one of the other Greek or maybe an Israeli cruising company could be interested in her unless Louis are now considering having her at the lower price.

She had been laid up in Freeport since November 2008 !

She has mechanical issues, hence why Louis fell out on the deal last year. She actually belongs to Star and was effectively 'lent' to NCL, so any deals will be brokered via Star Cruises. She isn't a bad ship but her stretch went wrong, the internal layout has completely lost its flow, so she wasn't entirely popular.

Her biggest feature is that her funnel & mast fold over to allow her to transit the Kiel Canal, she is the largest cruise ship able to do so.

Perhaps if nobody else does want her, Louis Cruises might be able to get a good deal and then sort out the mechanical issues.

Their present newest ship Cristal was reported as having a lot of problems with other owners but appears to operate OK for Louis Cruises.

I have found a new website which provides information on ships positions this evening !

According to what they published Norwegian Dream is due to arrive at Piraeus on the 2nd May at about 10.00 hrs.

It is going to be interesting to see what happens to her when she arrives at Piraeus as there has been no information that anybody has bought her so why has she gone there instead of remaining laid up at Freeport !

Hi Ally

Re Cristal, she has had about six names and several owners which have included one having her re-built from the hull upwards after a fire !

At the time of the fire she was being converted into a cruise ship and had been named Viking Saga.

Norwegain Dream has her AIS transmitter running this morning and that is showing her closing in on the port of Piraeus at about 13.5 knots.

I was just having a look at the Kroooz Cams website and that is showing a webcam picture coming from the Norwegian Dream so it looks as if her camera may still be on board and working unless it is an old picture which can happen.

The print is too small to read the details of the transmission time.

It may be due to the port being busy when she arrived but Norwegian Dream started to head down to the entrance to the port and then turned and has anchored in Piraeus Roads.

Looks like a wait to find out why she is there and where she is going as she is still for sale as far as is known.

Norwegian Dream is still swinging round her anchor in Piraeus Roads this morning and showing no sign of entering the port at present.

Today there is only one visiting cruise ship due to arrive.

On The Move Again !

The ' Norwegian Dream ' has been at the Greek island port of Syros since the 11th September 2009.

Previously she was known to be anchored in the bay near to Kalamata on the Greek mainland.

It is not known if she has been sold but there are ships repair facilites at Syros.

A new picture of the Norwegian Dream at the ship repair yard at the Greek island of Syros.

The reason for her being there for over two months is not known.

No reports have appeared of her having been sold !

Had another check today and Norwegian Dream is still at the shipyard at the Greek island of Syros.

There is still no news on her future !

Norwegain Dream went for a cruise yesterday at about five knots in the Bay of Syros.

It might have been to check some work which has been done on her.

She is now anchored off the shipyard.

Not sure what is going on with Norwegian Dream off the shipyard at the Greek island of Syros but the AIS ship position map today shows that she has been making some very unusual manouvers.

She could have a steering problem or they could be testing the engines alternately !.

She is now shown on the AIS ship position map as heading for Piraeus at about 11 knots !

Norwegian Dream has now been at anchor in Piraeus Roads for the past two days.

No news on her future has been received.

Norwegain Dream is again at anchor, but not showing where on the AIS maps, so she may have her transmitter turned off.

Picture is from her webcam which shows she has one black ball up which is a sign to other ships that the ship is anchored.

Just been checking three lots of AIS ship position maps for the Island of Syros, where she was at the ship-yard before, and she is not showing as there !

It could be that she is at another port !
