msc Melody sold to Indian interests

Reports have appeared that after being laid up in Naples for about 15 months the oldest and smallest ship in the MSC Cruises fleet, the 35,143 grt ' msc Melody ', has been sold to Indian interests and has been re-registered in India.

Reports suggest she could be used as a hotel ship in Goa.

This cruise ship entered service in 1982 as the ' Homeric ' with Home Lines.

keep us updated when you find out....if the Melody becomes a hotel ship it will be interesting to find out where she will be based.

She is sitting outside of the entrance to the Suez Canal fpr severald ays now, sporting her new name QING. QING (Passagierschiff): Schiffsdaten und AIS-Position - IMO 7902295, MMSI 419000861 - FleetMon.com
Now I am wondering why would an indian owner - Financial House with many different divisions such as IT, Building. Sahara India Pariwar:: World's Largest Family
The Name is Chinese and I suspect the vessel will be eventuall used to cruise with chinese Passengers. We shall see. In the past all ventures to establish cruises for the indian amrket, as well as casion ships and floating Hotels have failed.

Very stragen. she was in port breifly yesterday, then left again dropped anchor outside and as of this am 10:37CST she is back olong side at the pier which is generally used by all cruise vessels visiting Port Said.
Our contact with owners in Mumbai has gone unaswered. as for scrap sale and beaching in Alang seems in my opinion not realistic as the price the indians paid was too high than the going market offers for scrap vessels.

Bearing in mind she had been laid up for some time it is possible the canal authorities are not happy she is in the right condition to transit the canal or her paperwork is not in order !

The ex ' msc Melody ' has now passed through the Suez Canal and is heading down the Red Sea today on her voyage to India at 10.6 knots.

She has been renamed ' Qing ' and she is now registered in India.

The ex MSC Cruises ship ' Melody ' which is now named ' Qing ' is now shown on the AIS ship position maps as arriving at Mormagao, India, on the 9th January 2014.

There are several casino type ships based at this port in Goa so she could finish up offering this type of cruise or may just be used as a hotel with casino facilities..

She is now registered in India.

The ' Melody ' has remained at the Western Indian Shipyard at Mormugoa since January 2014 !

Plans to convert her into a floating hotel appear to have been delayed due to problems at the shipyard, which is now for sale, and some workers there going on a hunger strike due to not being paid !

During the recent monsoon rains reports have appeared that the ship, which had no crew on board, flooded in parts and started to list and settle on the seabed with some of her bunker fuel leaking.

Her future is now not looking good.
