Now Into Her Final Week As An Active Cruise Ship !

Mona Lisa is shown on the AIS ship position maps as arriving off of Reykjavik about 06.30 hrs this morning.

She is shown in the final cruise brochure schedule as remaining in port until 18.00 hrs tonight and then sailing to the port of Thorshaven in the Faroe Islands.

She is due to arrive there at 07.00 hrs on the 29th August 2010.

This is her last port of call before returning to Bremerhaven where she is scheduled to arrive on the 31st August 2010.

Her future is still not confirmed although efforts are being made to have her moored in Stockholm harbour.

Mona Lisa arrived and anchored at 06.00 hrs at Torshavn in the Faroe Islands this morning.

She is scheduled to sail from the Faroes Islands at 13.00 hrs and then heads to Bremerhaven where she is expected to arrive at 13.00 hrs on the 31st August 2010.

Her future at present remains unknown but as soon as any information is received it will be published.

Photo below showing her appearance when built as the Kungsholm by John Brown's shipyard in Scotland.

She entered service in 1966.

The appearance of Mona Lisa was altered when purchased by P & O which resulted in the removal of one funnel and changes to the other funnel plus an extension to the ships superstructure.

Another Use !

So far today Mona Lisa has not appeared on the AIS ship position maps, when they have been checked, although she was listed as due at Piraeus today on the 1st September.

Interesting comment on another forum today with regard to the ship.

It was wondered if she could be chartered and used as an accommodation ship for construction workers when the re-building of buildings, damaged in the earthquake, starts in Christchurch. New Zealand.

As she would travel empty to New Zealand it may be possible as at present the ex Fred Olsen cruise ship Black Prince is still in use at Haiti as an accommodation ship and she was not Solas 2010 compliant.

All the AIS ship position maps I use have been checked again tonight and still no sign of Mona Lisa.

I am wondering if she might have called at a port enroute to Piraeus for a buyer to look at her.

I did wonder if Classic International Cruises might have looked at her as they did view the Saga Rose, before she was sold to the ship breakers in China, so could be interested in adding another ship to their classic ship fleet.

Arrived At Piraeus !

This morning the AIS ship position maps are showing the Mona Lisa at anchor in Piraeus Roads.

She arrived there about 08.30 hrs today so it looks as if she slowed down after leaving Bremerhaven.

She is showing on the map without the usual blue arrow, which is the maps system for a passenger ship identity but this has happened before.

Instead she is a small grey square.

No onward sailing information is available.

190 Interior Pictures Of Mona Lisa.

Link to a very interesting collection of 190 pictues of Mona Lisa, including many recent interior pictures, which have been put together by David Leidenborg.

This ship has a very big following in Sweden from when she first entered service in 1966 as the Swedish liner Kungsholm having been built at the John Brown shipyard in Scotland, UK.

On The Move !

Mona Lisa moved out of the Piraeus anchorage area at about 07.30 hrs UK time this morning.

She has gone the short distance to the Keratsini area which is just round the coast from the main harbour at Piraeus.

At Keratsini there is ship repair yards and also moorings for ships which are laid up.

She arrived there about 09.00 hrs.

Mona Lisa May Be Chartered

Reports have appeared that the Mona Lisa may be chartered for use as an accommodation ship to house workers at Muscat.

It is expected she will visit a ship repair yard at Constanza, if the charter goes ahead, before proceeding to Muscat.
