www.cruise-community.comsecurityunauthorized.aspMexico’s Port of Guaymas, which is investing $8.5m to build a new cruise terminal, has confirmed two calls in late 2008 by Holland America Line.
Ryndam is scheduled for Oct. 16 and Nov. 15. In addition, HAL plans visits in 2009, with a Jan. 20 stop by Oosterdam and a March 31 call by Ryndam. Also, The World of ResidenSea has set an overnight stay, May 21-22, 2009.
Construction begins this month on the terminal, which is targeted for completion by the end of July. The two-story facility will house a restaurant and 30 shops with offerings such as handicrafts and jewelry, port director Jose Luis Castro Ibarra told Seatrade Insider.
Guaymas is also working on tour development to receive passengers from the big ships. The Sea of Cortés port has been charted by smaller vessels but aims for more business by expanding its offerings and facilities. A second cruise pier in a location north of the city is under discussion.
Castro said Guaymas is extending its marketing efforts to several major lines and upscale operators.
