The 1992 built 74,077 grt RCI Cruises ship ' Majesty of the Seas ' has been detained at Port Canaveral by Coast Guards and prevented from sailing on her four day cruise after a reported check of the passenger lifebelts found they did not meet the required standards !
It is possible that other problems could also have been found as it is not often a cruise ship is detained !
It is expected the cruise will now be at least one day less while the ship remains in port and new lifebelts, that meet the requirements, are aquired and then maybe the ship can sail !
Passengers at present are reported as being offered a 25% refund on fares paid and will also receive a 25% discount on another booking.
They had also been allowed to go ashore and evening entertainment was being arranged on board with the bars open !
It makes one wonder if any of this companies, or other cruising companies with the older cruise ships, could also have the same problem and how long these life belts had been on this ship before this problem was found !
