Hello Cruising Talk.... Not quite a new member rather a reinstated Member..
Cruised 5 times, once with Cunard on the Arcadia, being the first time we were kind of unfamiliar with the whole thing... However we quickly found that Big Ships were not for us ... So we converted to the smaller vessels, namely Fred Olsen line. We couldn't fault them at all..
Sadly My wife Barbara passed away in the October of 2010 and since that I have been on many odysseys, and am now looking to cruise once again.
I kinda feel that being a single will be a sad situation on board a cruise, let face it most who dabble ar couples and those who are single appear to be literally on their own... To this effect I'd like to hear from singles, their thoughts and experiences.....
Alli if you are about I'd love to hear from you I have a few questions that you m,ay be able to answer.. thanks fro reading t5his

Welcome back Mike, its wonderful to hear from you :)

So sorry to hear about Barbara, she was a real gem and a lady who had a real spark for life no matter what came her way...

As you know, I always cruise solo...believe me, its not as bad you might think...the cruise is always enjoyable and you're never really on your own unless you want to be - such as having a quiet moment on a lounger somewhere just looking out to sea ;)

It's great to see you matey <hugs>

Ally Thanks for the lovely welcome back..
For some time I have been trying to make contact with Phil and Sue Dargan, I know that some time back he was headhunted by P&O to go on the Victoria and I also know that some time later he rang me to say that he was back and starting up Chose and Cruise once again, Have found the site which is obviously close, have also found him and his son James on FaceBook, and have had no answers from my posts... It seems that he has dissipated into thin air ? Any Ideas

Great to her from you... You must tell me all you adventurers

Ello Mike :)

I haven't had any contact with Phil or Sue since 2010 after my Costa Allegra cruise from Singapore to Savona...I still try and get messages through to them but to no avail...I would love it if he did restart the old firm, I would shift back to him like a shot...he was excellent :)

I cruised in May this year aboard Costa Classica from Dubai to Venice and am away in a couple of weeks for a 7 day mess about in the Med aboard Costa Pacifica (which still has hundreds of cabins available amazingly enough). Although not a fan of big ships, I want to give one a try just to see what they are like, hence Pacifica. Last year I cruised aboard Costa Victoria from Buenos Aires to Savona, she is a gorgeous ship, midsize in today's standards but beautifully built and designed before Carnival :)

What you been getting up to?

As you know, Barbra was in bad health for some 6 years we had decided to spend Christmas 2010 in the Caribbean with Maritime cruises and Voyages... or something like that.
She went down in the June with a bad chest and it never got better culminating in August with pneumonia which she couldn't cope with, she died with all of us there on the first of October 2010..
Although we were all expecting the worse, it came as a bit of a shock....
Just after New year and as a surprise to us all I met a lovely lady with whom we all go on well, she liked traveling so we spent a number of short breaks in UK.
Oct 0211 we spent some time in Tenerife, March this year we ventured to China traveling up the Yangtze from Shanghai through the 3 gorges and eventually back to Beijing.. An interesting trip but one that I'd not repeat..
This October we returned to Tenerife for a week and split just after.. She lives in Guiseley and the trips to and fro to Anglesey got to both of us... Soooo I'm free and Looking for someone to Cruise with, preferably a lady of my own age, mid 50s to 60s and willing to join me... I've not decided where or when yet, but probably in the new year... I'd like to do the Fjords and the Auroras So there you have it !

Just a quick note on my Avatar... That is a guy called Joseph O'Rourke, a distant grandfather ! He was the general commanding the Russian army in the Napoleonic wars and was instrumental in Napoleons defeat... He, his Father and two Brothers were mercenaries and having received Russian citizenship in 1816ish they all joined the Russian army. Joseph managed to do the best though all were high ranking officers.
This painting hangs in the Hermitage in st St.Petersburg to which I sailed in a 60 yacht in the summer of 2011 ... another long story !

awww Mike, you've had a bit of a bad trot of it lately, I'm sorry :(

Barbara was a stong lady, I remember so well the difficulties that she faced and finding a cruise line able and willing to assist was something that Phil had great success in doing. So sad to know that she passed away like that, I can only imagine how devastated you must have been....

I'm also sorry that your relationship has failed too, real shame :(

The trips that you have taken sound like they were great...I wouldn't mind a Yangtze cruise one day, maybe...the red tape involved in getting into China (visa costs) would need to come down. I have been to Sanya and Hong Kong aboard Costa Allegra in 2008 though, so got a tiny taste of the region.

Northern Europe is also somewhere I quite fancy visiting...have looked at Hurtigruten since they run in the winter, which to me would be the most spectacular time to go I think....it's on the "get there eventually" list :)

Your avatar is very impressive....family history hunting can be quite eye opening sometimes :)

Hello to you, Mike!
So sorry about losing your wife. I lost my first wife to an auto accident in 1995 and I thought the world had ended. As it turned out it was just the start of my new life, which has included 24 cruises with Rita!

Nice one Keith glad you have had a second chance... Just what I am looking for !! Its just that I want to get back to cruising but really don't want to do it on my own. I am looking to perhaps if there is a Singles dating service, so like minded folk can get together, see if they are comppatable and cruise, not necessary in the same cabin but as companions !

Hi Ally.. are you still about? You may have seen my last post re a reliable independent cruise specialist, similar to Phil..... Well I have, at long last, decided to take the bull by the horns and do a Trans Global... But I need someone like Phil to book with, the big boys only see the $ signs and not the personal service that I am used to..... Are you still sailing and who do you trust with your bookings...

Secondly, following 3 successful Liaison with Ladies who, sadly dont like the thought of a world cruise, non of whom I am with at the moment, I wonder if you could perhaps point someone towards me.... I can do the rest with my infinite wisdom, charm and good looks... I say this with tongue in cheek..... I think

Take care lovely lady... we seem to have known each other for some time, we really should meet up some where?
Regards
Mike
