A question about the Costa Atlantica
I was looking at cruises for August in the far east and saw that Costa have 2 ships
Costa Victoria & Costa Atlantica
Looking in more detail for cruises with the Atlantica I see a short one for 9th august
also cruises on 13th,18th & 23rd august

When I go onto the Costa Cruise website both for the UK & USA all they show are 2 cruises
the one on the 18th has a red line across it and there is a cruise on the 23rd.

It puzzles me that the Costa site doesn't show the cruises on the 9th & 13th even if they are full. Also seems to show no cruise at the start of august...is one sold out ?

Anyone got any idea why these cruises don't appear not only on the Costa site but also some cruise specialists don't appear to have them listed ?

As Atlantica can take over 2000 passengers can she really be completely full this early for these cruises in august ?
If I wanted to book a cruise on Atlantica in august it appears that I can't
just wondering why ..

I'm guessing that it's marketing. Costa might have a certain number of cabins available to each market or perhaps for each cruise and other cabins set aside for a B2B. Another factor might be TAs who reserve blocks of cabins for group pricing to their customers. Or, it could be a combination of all of these. The more I think about it, the more certain I am that anomalies like this are due to marketing.

I encountered the same situation like what you just described. I tried to book a cruise - Atlantica, set sailing on Oct 17, 2013. Initially, I can find it on Costa's web site, but it indicated was not saleable. I phoned Costa and they replied the cruise was targeting for Asians. Once they finished up the sale in Asia, Costa will open this cruise to North America. Unfortunately, North Americans are sort of treated like the "second class citizens"! I guess this is purely a marketing technique to capture bigger sale! May be we should forget Costa and try other cruiselines. Good luck to your new search.
