Latest news from Madeira is that 32 people have now died in the floods and mud slides.

Some photos below which shows the mess along the harbour front road and in the town.

I have also added a photo of how the road and roundabout usually look opposite the harbour.

This morning the webcams in Madeira are not working.

News reports say that water and mud continued to sweep down the hills into Funchal on Saturday.

38 people are now known to have died and over 100 people are in hospital. The death toll is expected to rise.

Tourists are being advised to remain in their hotels.

Portuguese naval ships, with helicoptors and medical supplies, are being send from the main land which is about 560 miles away and a state of emergency may be declared.

It is thought that a number of British families will be staying on the island with it being the UK half term school holidays.

The latest news from the island of Madeira is that 42 people are known to have died but some areas remain to be searched.

The local webcams are still down but the pictures below have come out via the newspaper websites.
