Hi

I do not know what the regulations are regarding the operating of this equipment when it is installed on ships but in some countries bordering the sea the service is not available although it is now starting to come in use world wide.

I think the quality and age of the equipment can affect the report from cruise ships as some of the Greek cruise ships that sail out from Piraeus every week vanish off the maps, when just outside the traffic seperation area, while others still show on the AIS maps when some way off the port.

For those who have not seen an AIS map the map below is from the area in the English Channel off of the Isle of Wight.

Ships shown in blue are passenger ships of the various types such as cruise ships or ferries.

In most cases these maps are updated ever few minutes.

15 knots was the cruising speed when on three engines during recent Norwegian trip.

If she was doing 15 on 3 engines and is doing 15 still...sounds like she is still an engine down. If thats the case and they still have not repaired the ship properly, this season could be more than a little bad for VoD.

Hi

Going back to the £19.25p per person a day fuel surcharge being made by Voyages of Discovery, I have received a flyer today from Transocean Tours and they still have no fuel surcharge for their cruise ship Marco Polo !

They will be introducing one for bookings made after the 1st September 2008 but even then it will only be £6.00p per person per day.

MP is older than Discovery...so VoD can't use the 'ship is older, less efficient' excuse, Neil.

However, MP will still probably be sailing long after 2010, unlike Discovery.

Neil...Aegean Pearl has collided with Zenith this morning, isn't AP a possible replacement for Discovery?

Hi

Aegean Pearl is The Louis Cruises ship Perla which is on charter to Golden Sun Cruises at present.

She should have docked in Piraeus this morning at 7.00am, after a weekend cruise, and was due to sail again about 11.00am.

The ship which could replace Discovery is the Aegean 1 which was recently bought by the original owner of Orient Lines.

Hi

With the local owned cruise ships doing their usual Monday morning turn rounds, and visiting cruise ships due in port , about nine cruise ships were due to berth in the port this morning.

No doubt the port was a little congested with the ferries also running in and out !

One ship there today, which the Zenith missed, was the Fred Olsen cruise ship ' Braemar ' !
She might have lost that horrible top !
