That was a flying visit then...what a shame, I bet the passengers would have liked to have spent some time looking around the tallships from the race.

She was due to leave Bergen at 1pm today for Oslo. QE2 is in Oslo today and she's older and in better working order than Discovery.....maybe we are losing the wrong ship in November

VOD should have bought the old gal ,they would have got more service and customers out of her than Discovery.

I get the distinct feeling that VoD's days are as numbered as they are for QE2.

Damn shame, I would love to know why VoD are acting like they are. It's as if they have lost interest in operating for some reason

If All Leisure want to put all the effort into Swan Hellenic and walk away from VoD, I wish they would be open with their fare paying public and admit it. Like I said before, a company like VoD had a pretty good reputation and if the company is on the way out, it would have been better to go out on a high...not as they seem to be doing, which is committing commercial suicide.

I cruised on Discovery just after All Leisure bought her ,she had just been refitted and was a lovely comfortable ship,in fact they used my letter of recommendation in their advertiseing for a few years afterwards.
She did suffer excessive virbration then on the sun deck aft ,you couldn,t sit on some chairs ,they bounced round the deck.
The Captain at the time had come with the ship from i think Orient lines and he always ran one engine at half speed.

Default Cruise Ship Engines

Hi Swan

I think they now run both engines at half speed !

Thats if they are working !

Regarding viabrations this seems to be a problem with some of the older diesel engined cruise ships.

I know that the 1970's built P & O / Princess cruises ship, ' Sun Princess' , which is now named Flamenco 1, could viabrate a lot at the aft end when she was cruising above 20 knots or when using her reverse gears as the ship was going alongside a quay at a port of call.

Braemar is a real reverse gear bouncer, Neil....she can clear her dining tables when in reverse...clear them of cutlery, crockery & glassware

I just think its part of a ship's character

Default Oslo

Hi

According to the AIS maps mv Discovery is heading up the fjord to Oslo.

She has been coast crawling this morning and cruising at between 13 and 16.0 knots.

The brochure gives her as due to arrive at 15.00 hrs.
