Celebrity Summit Alaska shorex accident injures 15 out of 17 in minibus
The Juneau Fire Department says ten people were injured Tuesday morning when a tour bus overturned in Lance Chance Basin. Ten people were transported to the hospital in three ambulances. Fire Chief Eric Mohrman tells KINY Radio that two sustained relatively serious injuries, while eight suffered minor injuries.
A Gastineau Guiding tour bus was reported on its top in the ditch, KINY says. There were seventeen people on the bus, including two guides. The bus was within about 300 yards from the end of Perseverance Road. It apparently slid off the road and overturned once as it slid down the hillside.
It ended up on its roof up against a tree. The passengers were reportedly from a cruise ship. Police are investigating the accident.
There is no word as to which ship the passengers are from as yet.

The latest update is that the passengers were from the cruise ship Summit operated by Celebrity Cruises.
Eleven passengers ended up in hospital but it is reported that only one remains in hospital at the moment. Most injuries were minor.
The bus driver was trying to avoid potholes in the road. He drove close to the right shoulder and the front tire went over the embankment. The police have cited him for reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor.

Celebrity Cruises says only one of its 15 passengers involved in a tour bus crash Tuesday morning in Juneau remains in the hospital. The cruise company says in a prepared release that the passenger has NON-life threatening injuries.
The 15 hikers were from the cruise ship Summit, which sent one its doctors to the Juneau hospital to offer additional assistance. The Summit left Seward on Sunday for a seven-night cruise.

Eleven people received minor injuries Tuesday when a tour bus rolled in hills above downtown Juneau, and the driver was cited for reckless driving, police said.
Ten people with bumps, bruises and a few broken bones were treated and released from Bartlett Regional Hospital, nursing supervisor Robert Chatfield said. One other with chest injuries remained hospitalized Tuesday in stable condition.
The Gastineau Guiding tour bus had 17 occupants, 15 tourists off the Celebrity Cruises ship Summit and two guides, Juneau Police Lt. Kris Sell said.
The bus was driving in the hills north of downtown when it attempted to drive around some pot holes, Sell said.
The bus drove close to the right shoulder, and the front tire went over the embankment, police said.
The bus slid 25 feet down the embankment, rolled and came to rest on its top against some trees, Sell said.
"We're thankful there were no life-threatening injuries," Gastineau Guiding co-owner Dawn Wolfe said in a statement.
The driver, Gary Clement, 60, was cited for reckless driving, police said. However, Wolfe said she interviewed passengers after the accident, and she said they claimed the road caved away.
