SuperStar Aquarius arrives in Hong Kong
SuperStar Aquarius, the former Norwegian Wind, has arrived in Hong Kong as the largest homeporting ship. The 51,000gt vessel has capacity for 1,529 passengers.
A ceremony was held to commemorate the arrival. Attendees included Stephen Ip, secretary of economic development and labour; tourism commissioner Au King-Chi; and Patrick Kwok, gm-tourism marketing for the Hong Kong Tourism Board. Also on hand was Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, chairman and ceo of Star Cruises Ltd.
The ship’s arrival coincided with the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong’s reunification with China.
‘Although Star Cruises is based in Southeast Asia, it has been operating in Hong Kong for nearly 15 years and is also listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange,’ noted cruise line president David Chua Ming Huat. Business has been going well in Hong Kong, he added, noting that since Star Cruises’ inception, it has brought more than 1.1m travelers to the region and has visited more than seven cities in China.
SuperStar Aquarius joins Star Pisces and Wasa Queen operating under the Star Cruises and Cruise Ferries brands respectively.
