Star Cruises donates to Xiamen University
Quote:
Star Cruises made a HK$6m (US$769,000) donation to China’s Xiamen University to construct a building for the Tourism Department that will be named after Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, founder of the Genting Group, who died in October.
Lim’s son, Tan Sri KT Lim, the chairman of Star Cruises, traveled to Xiamen to personally present the donation and received an honorary professorship from the university.
Born in Xiamen, the elder Lim left for Malaysia at the age of 19 with a bag and little money, according to a Star Cruises release. He transformed the Genting Group from a small family business into an international conglomerate with resorts, entertainment and cruise operations.
KT Lim said he hoped the donation to the university will be the first of many to come.
