Solstice Lawn Club to Feature Tranquil Gardens and Recreational Activities
SOLON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Solsticesm, whose inaugural voyage is scheduled for Fall 2008, will be the first of four 122,000-ton cruise ships to offer guests a genuine, living lawn for recreational activities. W.P. Hickman Systems, a leading provider of quality roofing and waterproofing systems and solutions, is proud to announce that it has been selected to provide the green roofing system for The Lawn Club to be featured on these unique, 2,850-guest vessels.
The Lawn Club on Celebrity Solstice will be over half an acre in size and will span the upper deck of the ship. Guests will enjoy a finely manicured lawn with a practice putting green, which can also be used as a croquet court, and two grass bocce ball courts. The Lawn Club will also feature Celebrity’s signature Sunset Bar and the Patio on the Lawn where guests can observe game play, as well as an outdoor oversized chess and checker board. The Lawn Club will also host The Hot Glass Show by The Corning Museum of Glass, which is another first in the cruise industry.
“We are very excited to partner with Celebrity Cruises on this truly unique project,” said Tony Nista, corporate accounts manager, W.P. Hickman Systems. “The Lawn Club on Celebrity’s Solstice Class of ships is sure to be a hit among guests.”
W.P. Hickman Systems’ wholly owned subsidiary A.M. Technologies, Inc. was awarded the contract to make the Lawn Club concept a reality for Celebrity Cruises. A.M. Technologies will be responsible for final design elements and installation of the Lawn Club from the soil through a long term maintenance and training program. As part of the full-service package, Celebrity will also receive a W.P. Hickman Systems’ warranty on the entire system.
“We have extensive experience in green roof project design and management, but this project is one of the first ocean going turf systems on a passenger cruise ship,” Nista said. “There will be some unique challenges, but we are very excited to show our capabilities in an environment beyond the commercial and industrial building segments.”
W.P. Hickman Systems has provided its services to many high-profile projects, such as the green roofs at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa., and the Pacific Garden Mission, Chicago’s longest-running homeless shelter. W. P. Hickman Systems is ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certified and continues to strive to meet or exceed environmental regulations in all operations and through joint efforts with like-minded companies.
