Question Skagway Excursions

I'm visiting Skagway next year on my Alaskan Cruise. What excursions would you recommend for this town and area?

A visit to the "Red Onion" is an education!! (my wife waited in the bar for me whilst I went upstairs to the brothel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Seriously worth a visit.
But THE MUST is a trip on the "White Pass and Yukon Route" railway. We did it 2 weeks ago. Absolutely fantastic/

I now plan to go on the White Pass trip. A number of people have recommended it.

Now for the Brothel, that sounds like it could be fun

In August 2009 we will be leaving the cruise in Skagway and taking the White Pass and Yukon Railway on our way to a tour of the interior. We spend three days in the Yukon Territory and then on to Fairbanks and Denali. Finally to Anchorage for the flight home. It's a cruise/tour put together by Holland America. We booked through Your Man tours (YMT Vacations). The cruise portion is in MS Zuiderdam. I don't know yet what else we will do in Skagway, but we "escape" the town on the SWP&Y. We will be in Skagway about 24 hours including overnight at the Westmark Inn.

Hi

I do not know if they still have the same railway carriages but I did a trip from Skagway back in the 1970's when on the original Sun Princess / Spirit of London.

They had arm chairs in the carriages which you could move round and heating was from a stove in the corner of the carriage.

There was also an observation platform at the end of each carriage.

A lunch of ' Moose ' stew and apple pie with cheese was served at the summit before returning to Skagway !

Hi I was in Skagway last year and did the "Ghosts and Good Time Girls" walking tour which was fun and informative and finished with a guided tour of the Red Onion saloons brothel.
The highlight for us though was a helicopter tour out over the glaciers. We were put down on a glacier for 45 minutes with a guide which was awesome in itself but the ride out there and back was absolutely spectacular.
The shopping in Skagway was brilliant too but that may be because we were on the second last cruise of the season and everything was marked way down.Cheers,John.
