Exclamation Sea Princess - current cruise cancelled

Thousands of passengers have been left disappointed after a luxury cruise due to sail from Southampton was cancelled at the last minute.

More than 2,000 passengers were told that Sea Princess' 14-day Mediterranean cruise, due to depart at 4.45pm yesterday, had been cancelled.

A spokeswoman for Princess Cruises said the cancellation was due to a technical problem with one of the luxury ship's propulsion motors.

Sea Princess is due to resume normal service on May 26.

Can you imagine those that flew in that day and then learned?

The ship has been having a few problems lately, so I wasn't too surprised that they pulled the cruise...must be very disappointing though for everyone...

Sailed Fort Lauderdale to Southampton, 14 to 28 April on Sea Princess, no hint of any problems. A great ship and crew with top class food and entertainment. Restored my love of cruising after Arcadia and P&O last October.

I am pleased that your faith in cruising has been repaied by Sea Princess...experiences like Arcadia and the now cancelled cruise with Sea Princess can shake all trust in cruising very easily. According to this report by the BBC, the problem started on the final day of the last cruise. Hopefully the repairs can be made speedily and the ship will get back to normal service as soon as possible

Hi can you tell me what went wrong with Arcadia, I am new to this site but I have booked a 2 nighter on Arcadia in August, has she or P & O been having problems? I am a relatively new cruiser (first one last year) but thoroughly hooked!

There was no problems with Arcadia. There was a cock up with flights in from the UK. The delayed arrival of passengers departing Barbados and arriving in Barbados resulted in Arcadia delaying it's start of the cruise.

We had a very unpleasant cruise from southampton to Barbados in October 2006 on Arcadia. We accept the weather was very bad but the continual stress noises created by the flexing of the ship in all areas was very unpleasant. A persistant banging on an inner wall in our cabin, although acknowledged as a severe problem by the angineers, was said to be untracable and we were advised that as the ship was full we might be beter off trying to sleep in the Orchid Lounge.
The majority of the crew seemed to be very unhappy, The dinning room was very noisy and there was a lot of vibration as this is at the stern of the ship.
Our return flight to the UK was delayed by 10 hours but although P&O knew of the delay they still disembarked us from the ship and kept us at the airport for 8 hours before the even gave us a drink of water. The problem with the flight was that Thomas Cook Airlines had no crew to fly the plane. The plane sat on the tarmac the whole time we were at the airport but at no time were we advised by P&O or Thomas Cook of the expected flight departure time.
P&O eventualy compensated my wife and I to the sum of £150.00 each after admitting they were responsible for the total mismsanagement of the disembarcation and return flight.
This was my experiance of Arcadia and P&O but yours might be totaly different, go out to enjoy it.

Thanks for your reply, hopefully with a round trip from Southampton, and also only going a very short distance we should not have the problems that you encountered. Will be listening out for the noises though and will let you know when I come back.
Happy cruising!
