Default Ship Hits Another Whale !

About 12 months after ship hit a whale off of Vancouver Island reports have appeared today that yesterday the Sapphire Princess has hit what is thought to be a juvenile humpback whale south of Juneau.

Reports have been made to the authorities.

According to this article, the ship found the dead carcass at the bow of the ship when it returned to port. They are not sure if the whale was already dead when the ship hit it, a necropsy will be performed.

It turns out the whale was an adult female, not a juvenile as originally thought.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported that the whale measured 43 feet long, which is large for a female humpback.

NOAA is still investigating the incident.

Question

Question, so are more ships with bulbous bows hitting whales? I don't think I ever heard that with the regular type bows on the older ships.

I don't know Mrslinarcos. I do know that it's whale feeding season in the waters where this Princess ship sails, so there are a lot of whales and seems the odds must be higher for a strike.

Arrow

That makes sense, if there are more whales up there this year. However, it's very sad that they can't be spotted before the bow reaches one. Thank you Alpha.

It seems the whale Princess struck was likely dead when it got lodged on the bow of the ship. This was the finding last year as well. I'm happy in a way to hear that so people can not blame cruising for killing the whale.
