Smile Re First Voyage on Royal Caribbean

Hi, I just wanted to share my excitement and enthusiasm for the cruise my wife and I just came home from. My wife has been on four other cruises; done prior to us being married. In as this was my first; I must tell you that having only been home only a few hours, I sorely miss the Enchantment; the rocking motion one expriences while on the water, the absolute stunning beauty of the interior of the ship, the wonderful staff of the Enchantment, that worked so hard to make sure everyone was well taken care of, the excellent food served during our time on board, so many things will I miss, and for who knows just how long. We were treated to a wonderful experience by as I said, the staff of the Enchantment of the Seas, and they offered many things to do to keep you entertained and happy. The only thing that was somewhat of a dissapointment was the weather. When we arrived in Belise, and after having gone ashore, it was brought to our attention there, that all but two activities had been cancelled due to excess flooding. But, we made the best of it by shopping and meeting the good people there. All in all, it was a most rewarding experience; one that I shall not forget for a very very long time! I cannot wait to go on my next cruise with Royal Carribean International! Just for the record; in doing research on the various available cruise lines, I am convinced that dollar for dollar, and the fact of the friendly, courteous, hardworking staff of Royal Caribbean International, there is none other that I would ever consider booking with. Kudos to all that we encountered on our cruise on the Enchantment, on our cruise of October the 27th, 2008 out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. You guys are the best!!

Firstly welcome to the family Seduction & I'm pleased that you had such a great time aboard Enchantment

We have a review area here on CruisingTalk, so I will just pop this over there so that it doesn't get lost amongst the other posts in this section

Yep ! My first cruise was 11 years ago on the Splendour of the Seas . I remember almost crying when it came to get off! The first cruise always gets you that way- and you will always have a soft spot for your first ship. For myself, I've dabbled with Princess and Celebrity , and occasionally a change is good, but I must admit, like you , I keep on coming back to Royal Caribbean. I think their ships are just something else!

Hi Russell, thankyou for your response. I am so glad to learn I am not the only one to ever get emotional over departing from my first cruise...lol I am guessing that Splendour of the seas must be quite a ship! If she is anything even remotely close to the Enchantment of the Seas, then I can relate to what you must have felt the day you left. I feel as though I left a part of me back there on that ship. The entire crew of the ship made you feel as though you were family; they were so friendly and accomodating. I suppose anyone having more than a few cruises under their belt may read this and wonder "what in the world is wrong with that boy"...lol But that is how I feel. I met an acquaintance yesterday who said she and her family took a cruise on the Princess and really liked it. It probally is a really great ship; of that, I have no doubt. But there is something about the way RCI designs their ships, even their name, their logo, that in my opinion, just makes them stand out, over the other cruiselines. Anyhow, I just wanted to throw my two cents worth in again. Talk to ya later Russell.. Gary

Gary...I think you will find that pretty much everyone who gets the cruise addiction absolutely HATES having to disembark at the end. I, for one, usually sus out the lifeboats and cubby holes to see if I can hide there and stay on board ship a bit longer. I have enquired about 6 months on/6 months off...and if I ever win the lottery, that is exactly what I will do

The best thing to treat the addiction is always have at least one booked in the future, gives you something to look forward to

Like Ally says , the best cure is to book another one. Like yourself, Gary I think I'm turning into a Royal Caribbean junkie. I need to get my fix from time to time. Love that Blue Anchor. I swear Royal Caribbean ships even have a distinctive smell on boarding. Must be the carpet freshner they use!

Enchantment is one of the Vision class, which Splendour belongs to. There are differences but the overall layout of the ships are similar, all having a 7 deck "centrum". Have been on the Brilliance (Radiance class) Voyager and Explorer (much bigger) but they are all unmistakably Royal Caribbean.

As I said my first cruise stands out, along with one on the Grandeur. You did feel part of the family on both. As well as the crew, however, quite often it is your dining companions that make the difference. This was certainly true of my last cruise, in Voyager, when the table just clicked, and we had a great time, telling jokes in the dining room till 12. Usually the last table out!

People who don't cruise don't really understand this.

Love forums like this (this is of course the best) ehere you can keep in touch with cruising between holidays! Suprisingly little written about the modern cruise ships. Most literature tends to be about the "golden age" ie between the wars. Would love a book that documents the rise of Royal Caribbean from Song of Norway.
