Majesty of the Seas
October 22-26, 2007
My flight arrived on time in Fort Lauderdale. I used GO shuttle to travel to the hotel in Miami. The cost was $18.00. Since there was only myself and one other person heading to Miami, we were put into a Town Car. The other passenger just happened to be a very friendly and handsome airline pilot. I really enjoyed that trip.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Port of Miami the night before the cruise. This hotel is clean and comfortable with a small pool in an enclosed area. It is right across the street from the Bayside Marketplace in Miami, very convenient for shopping and dinner.
On Monday morning, we took a taxi/van to the port. The cost was $15.00 for 6 people and all the luggage. We headed to the port about 10:45. Check in was a breeze. We got our Sea Passes and were on board by 11:15. I dropped off my carry on in our very small cabin and headed up to the Windjammer for the buffet lunch, which was plentiful and very good. A drink by the pool deck completed the embarkation process.
Majesty is a beautiful ship with a wonderful crew. Everyone was smiling and happy. Sail away was right on time and we all enjoyed the view from the Royal Crown Lounge. It’s a pretty lounge with great views of Miami. It was very humid and hot and we enjoyed the air conditioning in there a lot.
Dinner in the dining rooms was outstanding. I went with the Chef’s suggestion every night . The filet was cooked to perfection (med rare for me). The sweet & sour Mahi Mahi on another night was also delicious. Our waiter, Karl from Jamaica was very friendly and I enjoyed our conversations.
We enjoyed dinner in Johnny Rockets one evening. The burgers and onion rings are really great. There is a charge of $3.95 unless you are a past guest. If you are, you get a coupon to cover that cost.
Nassau – I wasn’t feeling well, so I ventured into town for some cough syrup and went back to the ship to rest in the sun reading a book. It was very enjoyable to be on the ship when most were in port. I had lunch at the Compass Deli, a Cuban sandwich which was crunchy and tasty.
Coco Cay – I can’t say enough about this little island. It is spectacular, in my opinion. It is just the quintessential beach day in paradise. I snorkeled for a bit in the morning and then ventured over to the other side of the island to float on my mat in the shallow water. I enjoyed a Coco Loco and soaked up the sun. Lunch is served on the island, a nice BBQ. It was good.
Key West – What a great day! Fantasy Fest was in town, so there were many characters to enjoy. The people watching was in top form. I took the Old Towne Trolley tour and enjoyed that a lot. One bit of advice for those considering this. ….don’t buy the tour on the ship. It not only costs a few dollars more, but since it’s chartered, you cannot get off and on at different stops. The tour bought in Key West will allow you on/off privileges at 10 stops. It is a very nice way to enjoy an overview of the island. I hit an internet café and printed my boarding passes for the next day’s flights while here. It was very inexpensive too.
Disembarkation – I kept my luggage and took it off the ship myself. I had purchased a transfer back to Fort Lauderdale from RCCL. I got on the bus at about 8:30 AM and waited until 10 AM to leave. That’s a long wait! I didn’t really mind as I had a later flight. You cannot check in in Fort Lauderdale airport until 3 hours before your flight. I can get very crowded in the small area they have you wait, so waiting on the bus wasn’t bad for me, but it could be if you have an earlier flight. The drive took 1 ½ hours to the airport as there was a major traffic accident and it was pouring rain. Despite a short flight delay, I made it home on time.
All in all this was a great short cruise and I am thinking about doing it all over again next year. I met some really terrific people, made new friends and had a wonderful experience.
