QM2 Mysteriously Loses Power
The Queen Mary 2, while sailing on a Southampton-New York Transatlantic crossing, unexpectedly lost power this morning at about 1:30 a.m. off the southwest coast of Ireland. Emergency energy systems automatically engaged and the ship was halted. After a one-hour inspection of the ship’s structure, full power was restored. The ship’s progress restarted, though at a very slow pace (3-4 knots). At 9 a.m. the captain announced that the cause remained a mystery and that full speed would again be gradually attained.
