I shall look forward to hearing about her Norman upon your return. I remember seeing her off when she left Southampton for the last time....I hazard a guess that QE2 will have a similar send off when she leaves next year....flotillas of small boats, fireworks....and alot of tears too.

The Americans paid 1m for Queen Mary when they bought her in 1967....and back then, 1m was alot of money. $100m equates to a mere £50m...not alot for such a profound ship as QE2. Like QM, QE2 has served her country in wartime, broken records and launched more than a few cruising careers.

Damn shame she is leaving...and considering how much the Dubian company that has bought her is worth, she was sold cheaply by CCL.

At least she is being preserved, just think of the many hunks of steel masquerading as cruise ships, many still being built when their usefulness has been exhausted, the breakers yards will have a birthday.

I am pretty sure that the buyers of QE2 had made moves for Norway, gave a good price too IIRC, but Star Cruises refused point blank to sell her to anyone but the breakers in Alang.
