Lightbulb Pride of America - drydock refit & repair completed

Quote:
HONOLULU--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BAE Systems has successfully completed a $4.1 million two-week drydocking of NCL America’s (NCLA’s) Pride of America cruise ship May 9 at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. The work, which began on April 26, is an important step in generating ship refurbishment and maintenance work in Hawaii.

Pearl Harbor Naval Ship Yard entered into a “Private-Public Partnership” agreement with BAE Systems Hawaii Shipyards and NCLA to utilize the Navy’s facilities at Pearl Harbor to drydock the 921 foot-long, 81,000-ton ship -- the largest private ship ever to be docked at Pearl Harbor. The Pride of America returned to service May 10 with a seven-day Hawaii itinerary.

“With the shipyard capacity at Pearl, and our central location, it makes sense for Hawaii to take a larger role in repairing both military and civilian ships,” said Roger Kubischta, vice president and general manager of BAE Systems Hawaii Shipyards.

“The drydocking of the Pride of America at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard is a win-win for everyone involved in this Public-Private Partnership agreement and demonstrates NCL’s continued commitment to Hawaii,” said Alan Yamamoto, NCLA vice president of Hawaii Operations, “NCL America’s ability to perform a drydock working with BAE Systems at Pearl Harbor supports the military and local community.”

BAE Systems Hawaii Shipyards is a business area of BAE Systems Ship Repair, the United States’ leading non-nuclear ship repair, modernization and conversion company. It employs 175 people. BAE Systems is also a member of the Ship Repair Association of Hawaii, which represents 800 personnel in the local marine industry.

BAE Systems has more than 800 employees across a number of locations, making it the largest aerospace / defense contractor, and private sector ship repair company in Hawaii. The company supports Department of Defense customers with a variety of mission support services, research & development, and information technology solutions in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific Rim, to include Alaska, Japan, Okinawa, Korea, and Guam.
