Lightbulb Pacific Sun's captain replaced 'normal rotation' according to P&O

Details can be found here...

Storm rocks P&O's boat - 03 Aug 2008 - NZ Herald: New Zealand National news

Needless to say there will be those who find the captain changeover slightly suspicious in light of the problems encountered on the last cruise.

Default Change Of Captain

Hi

This seems to have been a very convenient time to have a change of command !!

No reports from New Zealand seem to give the name of the Captain or his relief !

The ship should have sailed at 10.00 hrs today ( Local Time ) but she was still in port at 11.00 hrs due to the inclement weather.

Reports say that passengers, who were embarked as usual last night, have enjoyed a free bar as the ship was still in port !

I have just come off the last cruise ... the so called 'nightmare' cruise ... and would like to say that the Captain was brilliant. There was nothing he could have done to minimise it. The freak incident happened without warning to everyone. The entire crew were amazing and sprung into action immediately. It was scary, but I have no complaints about what happened. It was just one of those things.

Default Stormy Sailing

Hi Picxie

Would you know the names of either of the Captains that were on Pacific Sun.

Many thanks.

Default Sailed !

Hi

Pacific Sun sailed about 21.00 hrs from Auckland on Sunday night for what will now be an eight day cruise.

She should have sailed on Thursday at 16.00 hrs but was late returning to Auckand due to stormy weather..

Hi Neil

I don't know the name of the replacement Captain, but I do know the one we had ... although can't remember it right now! And my bag was unfortunately left at the port (my fault!) and is being couriered to me, and any documentation that would jog my memory is in that bag!

May I ask why you want to know? I am wary of any negative criticism towards him, as he does not deserve any.

Default Captain Of Pacific Sun

Hi

I am curios to see if I know him as I worked at sea with P & O for over 30 years and was on the ss Oriana all the time she was based in Sydney and cruising to the Pacific islands and the Far East.

Default Cruise Fare Refund

Hi

Passengers who sailed on the shortened Pacific Sun cruise from Auckland on Sunday night have been offered a 30% refund of their fares.

The cruise is now calling at Noumea and Isle of Pines before returning to Auckland.

The following cruise named ' Ocean Waltz ' should depart as per schedule from Auckland on the 10th August !
