I have had a check of the New Zealand newspapers and TV but there is nothing there about anyone passing away so not too sure on this news.

It seems that P & O Australia get some right rust buckets these days on their cruises.

In 2003 the then ' Pacific Sky ' started to take on water while enroute from Auckland to Nuku'alofa, Tonga.

She had to return to Auckland, her trip and at least one more cruise was cancelled.

She was repaired by the Auckland ship repair yard who had to put a cofferdam round her as they had no drydock big enough for her !

Her hull and areas inside the hull were found to be suffering from corrosion.

She was built in France in 1984 as the ' Fairsky ' for Sitmar Cruises and was the last cruise ship built with steam turbine engines.

She now sails as the ' Sky Wonder ' for Pullmantur Cruises.

I find it amusing that Pacific Sky & Star ended up with an RCI company after being nothing but trouble for CCL companies (Carnival, P&O Australia & Costa)

This report has been interpreted incorrectly. It states that someone has died in a flooded stream in the North Island (NZ). It is an extremely badly worded report, tying a death into the same report as the cruise. No-one died on the ship.

I was on this cruise and would like to say that the Captain & Crew were all amazing after this unexpected incident. No-one is to blame for it, it is just one of those things. The staff worked throughout the night and morning to clean up the mess, and still went about their daily duties will little or no sleep. They were fantastic.
