Pacific Dawn - 2 passengers deported from New Caledonia due to past criminal history

French police in New Caledonia have on Tuesday deported two more Australian citizens with a paedophile history who were arrested on Monday aboard a cruise liner touring the Pacific islands.

Oceania Flash reporta that this brings to three the total of arrests of Australian citizens with a paedophile history in as many weeks.

The two Australians, aged 40 and 42, are from Perth.

They were arrested as cruise liner Pacific Dawn was stopping over in New Caledonia's capital Nouméa, local police said.

They were deported to Australia on the next available flight.

Late October, French police in New Caledonia arrested a first Australian citizen with a paedophile history.

New Caledonia's Border Police head Mario Banner told local media French police in New Caledonia and the Australian Federal Police have been exchanging information and intelligence regarding the whereabouts of the suspects.

As part of the process, they also share information of individuals with a criminal past (including paedophilia) who present a risk of re-offending.

Another passenger was deported last week from a cruise aboard Pacific Dawn for the same offence history.

There have been 4 such deportations so far in the last year or so.

Well now this begs the question, if you have a criminal record for paeophilia or indeed anything, should you go on holiday? Not saying you shouldn't, just wondering.

Apparently the Australasia/Oceana countries are alot tighter on this, Jean. They share information with each other alot more than the US does.

Personally I think it is a good idea in respect to paedophilia....a ship is, afterall, quite often a haven for young children and in places such as Noumea where there is considerable poverty, it would be all too easy for someone with bad ideas to take advantage of the situation.......just as people did in Thailand til the authorities started clamping down on it.

Yep...especially when you consider the Transatlantic rows about the EU giving the US information, civil liberties etc...and Australasia/Oceana have been doing it for ages without so much as a rumble of discontent from anyone...and it is obviously working too
