Pacific Star - extensive repairs started after storm damage
July 24: After three days sailing from Port Vila, Vanatu the PACIFIC STAR arrived in Brisbane, Australia, July 20 for repairs at Cairncross Drydock.
After serious damage in a recent storm the ship will have the upper section of her bow and steel framework removed and replaced. A new forward external staircase will replace the one washed away by the storm, and new steel plates to reinforce two small sections of the hull will be fitted. New windows to replace the twenty smashed are being manufactured and the openings will be covered for the next cruise.
P&O Cruises will fly the PACIFIC STAR's next 1,200 passengers from Auckland, New Zealand to Brisbane allowing the ship to remain in dry dock for two additional days.
PACIFIC STAR is registered in the United Kingdom and the Maritime Coastguard Agency is obliged to confirm that all requirements have been satisfied before she sails.
Her next cruise, named "Tropical Breeze" cruise, will visit Mystery Island, Port Vila, Ouvea, Isle of Pines and Noumea before returning to Auckland.
