Voyages to Tonga and New Zealand Take P&O Cruises Further

Two enticing new ‘Explorer’ itineraries have been released by P&O Cruises Australia, taking holidaymakers on extended voyages to the tropical isles of Tonga and along the stunning coastlines of New Zealand and Tasmania.

Passengers on these longer cruises will be able to spend more time exploring the breathtaking beauty of the South Pacific or the natural wonders of New Zealand and Tasmania, at an easy relaxed pace.

The spectacular 16-night Tongan Treasures Explorer cruise on P&O Cruises’ superliner Pacific Dawn departs Sydney on September 7, 2008 and visits eight beautiful destinations in Fiji, Tonga and New Caledonia.

The cruise features three exotic new ports for P&O Cruises’ fleet – beautiful Savusavu and Levuka in Fiji and Tonga’s remote Tin Can Island (Niuafo’Ou), where passengers will be able to join in the 1930’s tradition of sending mail to the island in a sealed tin can as they cruise by.

Other ports of call include Suva and Dravuni Island in Fiji, Vava’u and Nuku’alofa in Tonga and Noumea in New Caledonia.

Fares for the Tongan Treasures cruise start at $1995 per person in a complete inside quad-share cabin, including accommodation, all main meals and activities onboard*.

Meanwhile the 21-night Kiwi Adventure Explorer Voyage on the 1900-passenger Pacific Sun will set sail from Brisbane on November 29, 2008 – making it the first extended P&O cruise to depart from the Queensland capital.

The voyage will take passengers south to Sydney, Melbourne and onto picturesque Tasmania with stops at Burnie, Coles Bay, Port Arthur and Hobart, and then onto an array of scenic New Zealand ports including Milford Sound, Dunedin, Wellington and Auckland.

Fares for the Kiwi Adventure voyage start at $2685 per person in a complete inside quad-share cabin, including accommodation, all main meals and activities onboard*.

P&O Cruises’ Vice President Sales John Molinaro, said the introduction of the longer Explorer cruises followed strong interest in the six-week Cherry Blossom cruise to Japan next March and the four-week Pearls of Tahiti voyage in mid-2008.

“We feature a huge variety of cruises, ranging from seven nights to 42 nights, sailing to a smorgasbord of destinations in the South Pacific, New Zealand, Asia and Australia. These latest itineraries are a natural extension to our ever-popular program,” John Molinaro said.

The 70,000-ton Pacific Dawn was designed by famous Italian architect Renzo Piano and features 11 decks with two swimming pools, a choice of five evening dining areas, nine bars and lounges, a three-storey atrium lobby, “The Dome” entertainment area, a two-storey show lounge, fitness centre and dedicated children’s facilities.

At 47,000 tons, the 1900-passenger Pacific Sun provides a holiday for everyone with a huge 35-metre waterslide and three kids’ clubs guaranteeing entertainment for all ages, alongside five restaurants and cafes, multiple bars and lounges and two pools.

They both sound good cruises. I quite fancy them myself. I'll have to add them to the long list that I have.
