Smile Hogwarts goes to sea for moonlit launch of the ‘Deathly Hallows’

29 June 2007 - P&O Cruises

Fans of Harry Potter needn’t be disappointed this summer if they have planned a holiday with P&O Cruises.

In an exclusive deal, family friendly superliners Aurora and Oriana will take delivery of the latest book before they sail from Southampton to the Mediterranean on Friday 20th July. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows goes on sale in the UK at midnight on Saturday 21 July, so avid readers on these cruise holidays can buy their copy at exactly the same time as they could in the UK.

The cruise line has planned ‘moonlit launch’ events on board both ships so that fans of Harry, Ron and Hermione don’t have to wait a minute longer to start reading this eagerly anticipated final instalment in the Harry Potter adventure.

P&O Cruises head of brand marketing, Philip Price, said, “Harry Potter is of huge interest to our passengers – both children and adults alike. It is with great pleasure that we can offer this special service to our passengers and we are confident that they will have a ‘spook-tacular’ holiday with P&O Cruises!”

The daily ship newsletter will be specially themed and renamed the ‘Daily Prophet’ to mark the occasion on 20th July and fans of the books will also be pleased to see familiar Hogwarts characters such as Dumbledore, Hagrid and Harry hosting the moonlit launch parties in the on board libraries. Ghoulish treats such as cauldron cakes, liquorice wands, sugar quills, chocolate frogs, peppermint toads, jelly slugs, fudge flies and butterbeer will be served.

Children can also win prizes in a costume contest and a special ‘Petrified Potters’ version of the children’s classic - musical statues.

Aurora is departing on a 16-night Venetian Magic itinerary calling in Majorca, Greece, Dalmatia, Italy and Gibraltar. Oriana’s voyage is a 14-night Dolce Vita cruise calling in Spain, Monaco, Italy and Gibraltar. Both itineraries are fully booked but similar cruise holidays are available from £1,439 per person*.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be available to purchase on board Aurora and Oriana only from midnight on Saturday 21st July priced at £14.39.
*Based on two adults sharing an inside twin cabin on Oceana’s 14-night Spirit of the Mediterranean itinerary (E722) departing 1 September 2007.
