Smile Oriana emerges from make over

P&O Cruises’ Oriana has returned to Southampton following a multi-million pound refit in Bremerhaven. Highlights include a new Gary Rhodes fine-dining restaurant (Oriana Rhodes), fully refurbished cabins and revitalised children’s facilities with high-tech gaming consoles.

Other work included the expansion of Lord’s Tavern with more seating, large plasma screens and contemporary fittings. Tiffany’s bar features new lighting, fabrics and carpets, and will now serve as the pre-dinner bar for Oriana Rhodes, with piano music. The casino was remodeled into a venue called Monte Carlo Club.

Oriana also becomes the first P&O Cruises ship to display the company’s new logo on the side of its freshly painted white hull.

The make over has given the 1995-built Oriana a refreshed look and feel, said Nigel Esdale, commercial director for P&O Cruises. ‘We’ve done away with the traditional soft furnishings on Oriana and along with new mattresses we’ve introduced duvets and new pillows, Egyptian cotton linen and stylish bed runners to match the new sofas, cushions, curtains and headboards,’ he said. The cabins were redecorated in ‘invigorating tones of blue and gold.’

Oriana will soon host its first wedding at sea during the world cruise from Southampton, departing Jan. 7. The Captain’s Lounge was redecorated in soft colours to serve as a wedding chapel where couples will be married by the ship’s captain.

Highlights of Oriana's makeover

* Oriana Rhodes is the new select fine dining restaurant and is located in The Curzon Room. The decor is elegant and sophisticated, and the menus replicate those of highly successful Arcadian Rhodes, Gary's first restaurant at sea on board P&O Cruises newest superliner, Arcadia.
* 'Peter Pans' and 'Decibels' childrens' spaces, and the 'Outer Space' teen chill out zone have been refurbished in bright colours with lots of beanbags. High-tech plasma screens and PlayStation 2 games consoles have also been installed.
* Popular bar Lord's Tavern has been extended to accommodate more seating, and large plasma screens have been installed for maximum viewing pleasure. The bar area has been modernised, with stylish seating and contemporary fittings.
* Tiffany's bar features new lighting, fabrics and carpets. It will serve as the pre-dinner bar for Oriana Rhodes and features a piano with an evening pianist.
* The casino has been remodelled to create a boutique casino called the Monte Carlo Club.
