Lightbulb 3 Perspectives on Aurora - a cruise veteran, a first timer & a family

Quote:
On board: the veteran

Anne Haslam, 46, is sailing around the world on the Aurora with her husband David, 57. The 80-day voyage journeys from Southampton to Southampton, via the Panama Canal, Australia and Asia.
Seadog or landlubber?

I’ve been on 15 cruises, and David has done 10, all with P&O Cruises.
Crests

Our best cruise had to be in 1982, on Canberra, which is where we met. That was our favourite ship because it was friendly, traditional – you had a set table for breakfast, lunch and dinner, which we like – and everyone dressed up. They dress up on Aurora but not to the same level. Things are more relaxed now.

On board: the first-timer

Allan Pearson, 67, from Murcia, Spain, is also sailing around the world on P&O Cruises’ Aurora, sailing from Southampton through the Panama Canal to Australia and back to Spain through Asia and the Suez Canal, disembarking in Barcelona, three days before the ship arrives back in the UK.
Seadog or landlubber?

This is my first cruise. I’ve wanted to do a world cruise for years, to see all the places I’ve read about. My two best friends died in 2006 so I decided it was now or never. I took out a loan and here I am. I chose P&O Cruises because it has a good name and I liked the pictures of the ship.
Crests

It’s all been fantastic. The food is out of this world, like being on a five-star floating hotel. And the dancers are wonderful – they put so much effort and enthusiasm into what they do. I couldn’t afford many excursions, but I did a few and the rest of the time I went ashore on my own. There have been a lot of days at sea with nothing to see but I still find it fascinating.

On board: the family

Mick Foulkes, 42, from Cardiff, is also on a three-month world cruise on P&O Cruises’ Aurora with his wife Heidi, 30, and children Michael, 5, and Fabien, 3. They are cruising from Southampton through the Panama Canal to Australia and back to the UK via Asia.
Seadog or landlubber?

I have done two other cruises, both on P&O Cruises’ Oriana.
Crests

The best was a cruise to the Baltic on Oriana in 2006 with my 15-year-old. The ports were great and I loved Sweden.
