Default Medevac from Arcadia

A Passenger or member of crew was taken from Arcadia to hospital at Ponta Delgada on 24/10/06. More details to follow.

Strong winds has resulted in a number of passengers falling and gaining some bad bruising

I am not overly surprised you hit bad weather John, there was a big yacht race postponed and all the yachts returned to port due to severe storms in and around Biscay over the weekend that have continued into the start of the week.

We cruised on the twelfth voyage of the Arcadia, and it did not handle the North Sea as well as expected for a new vessel. In the middle of the night I thought I had fallen out of bed, but it was only a strange sensation. It was continuing to be uncomfortable all night.

Next morning scores of workmen were doing tasks, and we later discovered a freak wave had hit the ship, and the solder on the plumbing joints had broken causing flooding in many cabins apart from other damage. My how that ship creaked in rough seas. Seeing that picture of the Bay of Biscay reports do not surprise me.

Hoping the weather improves.

I am also quite surprised just how much Arcadia suffers in heavy seas. She is the same design/build as Zuiderdam/Oosterdam. Neither of which do Transatlantic/North Sea...which sort of says alot really. The three ships are almost identical in weight, Arcadia being 2000 tonnes larger.

The seas are a lot calmer now. The Bay of Biscay was a tad uncomfortable.

It was a passeneger who was taken to hospital in Ponta Delgada. I was waiting to leave ship to go on an excursion and was asked not to disembark until the passenger had been removed. The ambulance took the passenger to hospital.

I gave a negative report of Arcadia, yes she was a little unsteady during rough seas, but we enjoyed our stay on the vessel. I think when John comes home he will say the same as myself, This is different to Oriana, that is not the same on Aurora. All P&O regulars were comparing it with other vessels of the line. I never heard anyone praising Arcadia in its own right. People seemed to enjoy themselves criticising the ship, as it was different to others in P&O fleet. They seemed to want it modelled on every ship in the fleet.

We would definitely sail on the vessel again. The ship would have to be really bad for me to give an adverse comment, My wife and myself cruise and go on holiday to have a good time. Also enjoy the fantastic food as John has stated.
