'Aida Blu is described as equally appropriate addition to the UK line.
HAVING ALREADY BEEN CONVERTED TO THE INFORMAL AIDA BRAND, WITH ITS MANY NEW & CONTEMPORARY FEATURES, THE VESSEL IS WELL ADAPTED TO PROVIDE OCEAN VILLAGES' YOUNGER AND MORE CASUAL STYLE OF CRUISING.' ( extract - View from the Bridge)
In other words ,they are saving themselves some money. Regal Princess would have needed a complete refit.

Actually, Princess Cruises decided to retain Regal Princess to help with an expansion in South America cruises, which left Ocean Village scrambling for a ship.

Fortuitously, Aida had a newbuild scheduled for about that time, a sister to the current ships, and more appropriately sized for their operation than AIDA BLU (formerly Crown Princess). Aida agreed to give up AIDA BLU and ordered another sister to their current ships.
