I don't think you would ever find that area dead as far as wildlife is concerned. The guides are very adept at seeing the birds, etc. and stop the boat for pictures.
The crocs, howler monkeys live there year round. I would imagine a majority of the birds do also.
Here is a website with pictures of the ruins. Just type in Lamini in the search function and you will see the pictures.

Remember this is winter and any migratory birds would be down there.
This is a true undeveloped Jungle. It has not been cut down, etc. Therefore animals have not left the area. The only people you see are other tour boats on the river with a stray native fisherman. This is rural. This is Belize like it was from time immimoral. You walk where the natives of centuries ago walked. You travel the river they traveled on.
Belize--with a diversity of habitats making it home to over 500 species of colorful birds--is a birder´s paradise. Unusual birds such as the
Jabiru Stork, the largest in the Western Hemisphere and with a height of 5 feet, can be found here.
This is the stork that we saw in its nest.
As this is true jungle, it will be hot and the paths can be rough. You need to wear good walking shoes.
My family to this day, believes it was the best shore ex. we ever took.
But we are avid birding people and also loved the jungle. The ruins are majestic and huge.
Should you go ? It truly depends on what you want to see. We figured that it was one of our few chances to see real nature. We can see beaches, towns, stores anywhere.
Regardless, you will not find the town where you dock that wonderful. If that is all you see, you may not like the stop.
