NCL Corp. extended its relationship with the Republic of Kiribati, enabling the company to continue to offer Fanning Island on its long Hawaii cruises through to 2011 and to expand capacity by replacing Norwegian Wind with the newer, larger Norwegian Sun.

Beginning in September 2007, Norwegian Sun will operate 10- and 11-day itineraries from Honolulu with a stop at Fanning Island. Norwegian Wind will transfer to the Star Cruises fleet in late April 2007, as earlier foreshadowed here.


The addition of Norwegian Sun, along with the new Pride of Hawaii, completes the Norwegian Cruise Line brand and NCL America brand Hawaii fleets and will bring NCL’s total Hawaii capacity to more than 8,500 lower berths.


By deploying the 2,000-passenger Norwegian Sun on the Fanning Island itinerary, NCL expects to carry some 450,000 passengers to Hawaii in 2007.


Colin Veitch, NCL Corp. president and ceo, said the move puts four modern ships on Hawaii itineraries and enables Star Cruises to expand its Asian fleet with a relatively modern medium-capacity ship.
