Well, a cruise is what you make of it to a certain extent.
It depends on how many things you have to overlook to accomplish that end.
People wearing modest dress is appreciated in public rooms regardless of the expense of the trip, cruiseline, etc.
It is discouraging to see too much skin wandering around the ship. No one says the clothes have to be from Barneys in N.Y. but it would be nice if they covered you, were appropriate to the occasion and modest, meaning your butt is not hanging out !
There are all types of cruises. If you go on one line several times, you come to expect a certain level of cruise on it. This is how you can decide what line you like the best and want to book most often.
When you find that the line has changed or let one ship slip from the previous standard, it is really hard to accept being that you paid hard earned money to be there.
One can make some lemonade out of the lemon but it should not add up to a bathtub of the stuff ! A glass would be enough.
Carnival to many people ( never cruised on it ) represents a more active type of cruise. More casual dress. This may be changing with their newer ships.
In the past they did ads that were heavy with "The Party Cruise " idea. This meant to many that there would be more drinking, pool games and general activity. In recent ads they look like they are trying to woo the older generation.
But they will have to battle their rep. as a floating frat party.
I have talked to people that have cruised both Carnival and NCL, some were happy, others were not at all happy.
The cruiselines are not all alike. You hope to find a match with your idea of a good vacation and then book with the hope that the service will remain of that standard you enjoy.
Paul went on board expecting the type of NCL cruise that he had experienced in the past. The experience had changed and no longer is his type of cruise.
The same thing has happened to us with Celebrity. It is still a good line but it is not the cruise experience we enjoyed in past years.
The one thing on this board that makes it so delightful is being able to post your experience without any personal comments in return. ( only in very obvious jest when they are done

)
We have tried very hard to appreciate our different takes on the subjects posted.
When you are posting about a cruise vacation, you are posting your experience and passing along that information.
Paul is just giving his take on his cruise and comparing it to what other cruisers on Carnival have told him. This makes his comments from his personal viewpoint valid.
When you post after coming back from a less than stellar performance, your disappointment is obvious and comes through in your review.
I, for one, if they would let me cruise for free would give cruiselines more
of a pass for less than good service, etc.
But we pay to go on these cruises and for most of us it is not easy to do so very often.
In response to anyone's post of their cruise, it is to hoped that you can mention that you had a better experience but never, never negate the posters experience. It was their experience.
None of us, in my mind, ever post a negative comment in hopes of having others avoid a certain line. Nor do we post to say we doubt your cruise experience.
That all being said and maybe it should not be said, but I really want us to remain free to post our true concerns on a cruise experience.
