Sounds like you'll have a wonderful time, Norman, especially with the unusual transatlantic route. Iceland (and Greenland) are two places I would like to go one day...Olsen's do some great cruises in that area, so might give it a try in 2010, perhaps

Hopefully someone can give a few pointers in regards to the Canadian ports, hopefully neither will be foggy when you arrive. There are webcams in both ports so I dare say we will pick you up if the weather allows

Ten years ago our first visit to the USA was to San Francisco. The flight both ways took us across Greenland and Northern Canada. Both ways during daylight hours, the skies were completely cloudless, giving spectacular views. Greenland looked aboslutely fabulous and the snow clad Canadian Rockies realy beautiful.

When I flew to Jamaica in March 2007, the plane flew over the same areas...looked absolutely beautiful with all the snow everywhere. Been checking the Costa site, they have a couple that do either Spitzbergen or Iceland with Norway for 2009, so will look at doing one or other of them in 2010 when the new itineraries come out as they are a little less expensive than FOCL

My forthcoming transatlantic cruise in just over two weeks time takes me through a few time zones:

UK is on GMT+1 = British Summer Time

We depart from Dover (UK)

The first port of call is the Shetland Islands, which naturally our clocks stay the same as home.

Second Port is Iceland, which is one hour behind UK

Third port is St John’s Newfoundland, time zone is Newfoundland, and is 3.5 hours behind UK

Forth Port is Halifax Nova Scotia; this is Atlantic Time, being 4 hours behind the UK.

Final port is New York, on Eastern Standard Time 5 hours behind UK

We usually cruise from the Med or to the Med, and the time difference is minus or plus six hours.

All those time zones would drive me potty. Least in China there is just the one time zone for the entire country, so only had to change the hour twice for the cruise I did in June...Singapore to Vietnam + 1 and Vietnam to Sanya - 1...nice and easy

Putting the clocks back I don't mind, cruising the Baltic, you are continuing going forward, then backward.

Touring in America you have the following times behind the UK:

Eastern 5 hours
Central 6 Hours
Mountain 7 Hours
Pacific 8 Hours
Alaska 9 Hours
Hawaii 11 Hours

Houston 6 Hours

hmmm...Houston is 6 hours behind....I will be up and about from 9pm (UK) on the 1st, take off at 6am (UK) on the 2nd, change plane in Amsterdam + 2 and then land in Houston at 1.20pm (Houston time) on the second.....me thinks that I will be a little bit zombiefied
