Passenger medevaced from NCL Dream
The Coast Guard conducted a long-range medevac of an 82-year-old woman from a cruise ship approximately 115 miles off the coast of Galveston, Texas, Friday night.
A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a call at 7:03 p.m. from the captain of the cruise ship Norwegian Dream, reporting that an elderly woman was in a lot of pain and needed medical attention. Coast Guard Air Station Houston crews launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter to conduct the medevac.
An HU-25 Falcon jet crew from Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi, Texas, was launched to assist due to the extreme distance involved. The rescue helicopter crew located the cruise ship and hoisted the elderly woman at about 9 p.m. Friday. The woman was safely transferred to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
