Lightbulb Seatrade: New cabins on way for NCL F3 ships & Jewel/Jade ex UK in 2009 summer

Quote:
NCL has promised to unveil a completely new cabin concept onboard its two new F3 class ships, which are due to launch in 2010.

Chief executive Colin Veitch said the ships would not feature many key elements of traditional vessels, including a main dining room and one large theatre.

Speaking at the Seatrade convention in Miami, he said: "These will be ships with no main dining room, no main theatre, no lido cafe and without a traditional cruise ship cabin. The cabins will be unrecognisable from what you are used to."

Veitch said the designs would be an extension of the line's Freestyle 2.0 concept, but refused to give further details.

He also announced that NCL would retain two ships in the UK next summer, confirming that Norwegian Jewel would return to Dover and Norwegian Jade would operate a second season from Southampton in 2009.

You are reading it exactly right, Middy. The new ships will not be configured in the traditional way at all. I don't think the plans have been released as yet, must admit I am intrigued by how they will be configured.

Now this could be just the way my mind works, but no lido or main dining room, I sense a more widespread dining supplement.

I am wondering if they will extend the layout they have on the Jewel class ships...ie groups of cabins/suites around a central courtyard with its own dining and leisure facilities. Several of those would mean there is no need for big dining areas and lido's.
