Exclamation Navigator o/t Seas - Freak storm causes damage & port abandoned today

As reported elsewhere, Navigator o/t Seas was forced to abandon docking in Sardinia after freak weather caused a tour bus to overturn on the quay, Navigator's ropes snapped & her gangway dropped into the sea. The captain is reported to have taken the decision to abandon the port call and return out to sea. No injuries reported other than the driver of the tour bus, but Navigator has sustained minor damage.

Thank goodness that no one was on the gangway. Hope the tour bus driver is OK.

Apparently it all happened before the ship had clearance to disembark, so no-one was off the ship at the time...which was very fortunate.

Wow ! Just goes to show what can happen. I sailed round Med on Voyager of the Seas last week in some superb weather. Can't believe such conditions would exist in the Med!

Hi Russell hope you had a good cruise.
A few years back. It was this time of year that we had to spend an extra night in Rhodes due to high winds and rough seas. Mind you the rest of the cruise was sunny and calm.

Unhappy Mini Tornado

I was onboard the Navigator when this event happened.
I was terrified .
The ship was damaged when an oil tanker on the stabboard side smashed in to us, a bus overturned and a tourist shop was blown in to the air.
we later watched these events on the Ships T/V IT was all caught on the ships security cameras.
The Captain (Captain Bang) later reported that he had not seen anything like it before in all his years of sailing.AND REPOTED THAT IT WAS A MINI TORNADO .
The weather after this event only got worse and many passengers were down with sea sickness (me included).
I don't know if there is any truth in the fact that we were
sailing without stabelisers (certainly felt like it).
The Ship creaked and groaned and bumped its way back to Barcelona (finaly on dry ground I cried, I thought I was never gonna see my Daughter again.

My sister was robbed in Athens on the mertro she had her purse stolen from her bag with 500 euros in it.

This was my fourth criuse and it will be my last. NEVER AGAIN !

Unfortunately bad weather in the Med is a frequent event. many people go under the impression that being an almost enclosed sea, that it will be calmer...well next time you have a bath, make waves and you will see that in a confined area, those waves are usually stronger than if in an area of open water. Pickpockets are everywhere too, you just have to be streetwise and not take things off the ship that you consider valuable....eyes in the back of head is a must have when at home or abroad.

It's a pity that you have decided that cruising is not for you...but then it isn't for everyone anyway.

Talking Re the Navigator vs the Enchantment

Hello Ally, I trust you are having a great weekend. That is quite a report on that freak storm with the Navigator. Did that happen over in the Mediterranean part of the world, or was it in the caribbean area? I guess I must have missed that part of story. My question is that I was wondering if you or any members might have had an opportunity to cruise both on the Enchantment of the Seas and the Navigator? I am sure you remmember the essege I posted a week or so ago regarding my first cruise on the enchantment we, my wife and I took last month to Mexico out of Ft. Lauderdale. Well, my wife got such a kick out of my giddy, positive reaction...(obsession about cruises perhaps...lol) that she is seriously considering booking a cruise (for our Christmas present she says) on the Navigator which leaves December the 6th and returns Dec. the 11. The other date she was looking at was Jan. the 3rd too. Now the Navigator is little bigger I see, and it appears there are alot more activities available. I was just wondering if there was anyone who could offer their any feedback on their experiences on this ship. When she broke the news to me this morning that she was considering doing this, I was totally estatic...lol I am so ready to go!...lol Oh, lest I forget; has anyone ever gone on a Caribbean cruise for New Years eve, and if so, is it an expensive trip? That was something we talked about doing too. Ok, I am out.

Hi Gary

The Navigator was in the Med when this accident happened.

I have done a Christmas/New Year cruise before, but not the Caribbean...it was around Cape Horn from Chile to Argentina. Very enjoyable experience

I personally have not been on any RCI ship as I don't like the bells/whistles type of ship...I prefer the quiet, sedate and traditional type of ship
