My question is that I was wondering if you or any members might have had an opportunity to cruise both on the Enchantment of the Seas and the Navigator? I am sure you remmember the essege I posted a week or so ago regarding my first cruise on the enchantment we, my wife and I took last month to Mexico out of Ft. Lauderdale. Well, my wife got such a kick out of my giddy, positive reaction...(obsession about cruises perhaps...lol) that she is seriously considering booking a cruise (for our Christmas present she says) on the Navigator which leaves December the 6th and returns Dec. the 11. The other date she was looking at was Jan. the 3rd too. Now the Navigator is little bigger I see, and it appears there are alot more activities available. I was just wondering if there was anyone who could offer their any feedback on their experiences on this ship. When she broke the news to me this morning that she was considering doing this, I was totally estatic...lol I am so ready to go!...lol Oh, lest I forget; has anyone ever gone on a Caribbean cruise for New Years eve, and if so, is it an expensive trip? That was something we talked about doing too. Ok, I am out.
HiYa Gary

While I've not been on Navigator or Enchantment I have been on Independence OT Seas which is a bit larger, (Freedom Class), version of a Voyager class ship. There is so much to do on these ships and my husband, Ken, and I had a blast. I'm looking to book the Explorer (also a Voyager Class ship), out of Bayonne, NJ for next October. We enjoyed the many varieties of activities on board, especially the ice shows. You will find that the Navigator, a Voyager class ship, has more bells and whistles than the Vision Class ship, the Enchantment. While we didn't use the Flow Rider or the Rock Climbing Wall, it was fun to watch others make their attempts.

Now if you really want to see an exciting ship with lots to do, check out the Oasis of the Seas!! It is just OMG huge with so much to see and do. Have you looked at OASIS of the SEAS ????

I do believe that the cruises on the holidays are more expensive than cruising at other times.

I understand and share your excitement Gary!! I'm working on getting some girlfriends together to book Explorer and I keep wondering why everyone is not already booked and as excited as I am to start making solid plans! LOL

Hi Ally, thanks for the update on that freak accident report. I guess, in as I have only been on one ship, one time; I have alot to learn about the difference in the ships and how they are outfitted, huh? lol If you do not mind indulging my endless questions, what type of ship is it that you reffered to, that you enjoy going on; what was it you said, the quiet, type, without all of the bells and whistles? I am curious to know what type of ship that is. I just might have totry that type out to see if I like it or not.. S

Hi Gary

Of course I don't mind sharing your excitement in cruising and answering questions

My sort of ship...hmmm...well, they are usually older, under 50,000 tonnes (about half the size of Enchantment). They are very much 'old school' cruising...none of the constant calls over the PA system for this or that activity, no climbing walls or anything like the RCI ships have....just relaxing cruises, where you can find your sunny/shadey spot, sit back & watch the world float by with a chilled drink in hand. I cruise to see the places and recharge the batteries, rather than climb walls, go iceskating etc

Give me a small ship on an exotic itinerary...such as the one this year around South East Asia or the one next year around Japan & Taiwan, and I am one very happy cruiser

Hi Ally, thankyou so much for your patience with my asking so many questions. It drives my wife nuts when I ask too many questions...lol But how ya gonna learn anything ifn ya doin't ask, right? And Lord knows, I gots lots and lots to learn about cruises, eh?...lol Say, I was talking to a very good friend of mine who told me he and his wife had been on numrous cruises, and, in the course of our conversation he just happened to mention that before pre 9-11, his wife was on a cruise that offered skeet shooting, which is something that I thought would be a fantastically fun thing to do on a cruise ship. But I guess he said that after 9-11, that was the end of that. What have you heard or know about something like that? Just curious, Gary

I think it's only the higher spec lines still do skeet/clay pigeon shooting off the stern, but as you say, 9/11 curtailed most of that sort of activity on the mainstream lines such as RCI. I can remember as a child watching (and listening) to it when on board ship. Activities such as this were highlights of a voyage at one time...now you get the climbing walls and ice rinks etc instead.

Hi Ally, again, thankyou for your patience and reply re the skeet shooting post. Whew, sigh... it is a hell of a world we live in today eh? The things we once long ago enjoyed doing, that were innocent and fun, no longer are available for us to enjoy because of the tightly controlled world we live in. It really is sad that the youth of today will never know just how great and fun life was back in the day. But, what are ya gonna do, ya know.. Some things just cannot be changed no matter how hard you wish them to be, and one simply has to adapt if he or she wants to survive and or enjoy the life we live in today. I am sorry I got so philisophical on you, but sometimes it really disturbs me to think about what we had back in the day, as opposed to what we do not have now. Have a great day Ally I hope I didn't bring you down too badly...lol G

Times change Gary...and not always for the better. Sometimes I have found that things we used to do pre-9/11 that are no longer available due to 9/11 were not thought through properly...knee-jerk decisions if you will.

I mean...you can't shoot clays off a ship anymore incase you are hell bent on killing everyone in sight, yet when I flew to Houston last month to attend this site's owner's wedding, I walked through 'security' at IAH with my shoes firmly on my feet from the front door of the terminal and onto the plane.

Yep...times sure have changed...as have priorities.
