MSC Cruises' MSC Magnifica, the fourth ship in the Musica class of ships, is taking form in Europe. The company reports that the aft section has posed in the dry dock at Aker Yards in St. Nazaire, France. The aft panel, which is part of the double base of the hull, has been completely fitted with water pipes, electrical cables, air conditioning tubes and steam piping for heating. MSC Magnifica will be MSC Cruises' 12th ship it joins the fleet in 2010. It will be 964 feet long, 164 feet high and 105 feet wide.
Of the total of 1,275 staterooms, 80 percent will be outside staterooms and of these, 65 percent will have a balcony. The ship will also have more than 236,800 square feet of public space, with a pool area, the Aqua Spa, restaurants, a thematic children's play area, and a theater. Three other MSC ships are currently under construction at the Aker Yards in France -- MSC Poesia, the third vessel in the Musica class, due to be delivered April 5, 2008, followed by MSC Fantasia (December 2008) and MSC Splendida (June 2009). These last two ships will be 133,500 tons each and will include new exclusive areas and butler service. For more information, visit
