The current cruise due to finish on July 12th has now been officially cancelled. Passengers onboard ship now have received full refunds and all assistance will be made to accommodate them and get them home.

The decision regarding the next departure has yet to be made. Any developments will be posted.

7/8/2007 10:41:48 PM Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCL) announced that Celebrity Cruises has cancelled two 12-night Mediterranean sailings onboard Celebrity Millennium due to damage to the ship's propellers. The company expects the ship to reenter service for its July 24 sailing.

The company noted that the ship's propellers struck a submerged rock, following an electrical malfunction, on July 2, while anchored off Villefranche, France.

The company specified that remaining portion of the current cruise, which began June 30, as well as the next cruise, scheduled to depart July 12, has been cancelled.

The company said it expects the cancelled cruises are expected to have an all in negative impact on its earnings of about $0.14 per share.

What a shame for everyone! I can only imagine the disappointment on the part of passengers who've taken time off work, made flight arrangements and all. I know accidents happen and it's the luck of the draw, but I'd bet that everyone is very unhappy.

At least the passengers have been refunded on the current now cancelled cruise...and Celebrity have taken the decision relatively early to cancel the 12th July departure. They could have hung on right up to the 12th before finally scrubbing the cruise. Granted its a few days away, but many of the passengers on the next trip will still be at home, rather than thronging the airport in Venice on the day.

It has been announced that in addition to the full refund, passengers will also receive a future cruise credit worth 100 percent of the fare paid.

The news is that Celebrity have stated that, "The repairs and system checks are going well, and the vessel is expected to sail and be on time for its next scheduled cruise from Barcelona July 24."

**Update**

Celebrity Millennium -- which has been in a dry dock in Palermo for the last week -- will set sail today for Barcelona, according to a Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. spokesman. The July 24 cruise is expected to operate as planned and on schedule.

The cruise line canceled Millennium's June 30 and July 12 voyages after the ship struck rocks off Villefranche, necessitating repairs to several propeller blades. These fixes have now been completed.
