Celebrity Cruises canceled the Sept. 13 Infinity sailing to replace one of the ship’s two propulsion pods. Passengers will receive a full refund and a certificate for a future cruise.

Travel agent commissions are protected, and agents who rebook clients will get a $50 per stateroom bonus.

The affected pod’s electrical system is failing to supply the maximum cruising speed. With speed reduced from 22 to 19 knots, the ship is unable to maintain itineraries as scheduled, Celebrity said. Repairs will be made in Victoria, BC.

Following drydock, Infinity will return to service on Sept. 24 for its scheduled trans-canal cruise from San Francisco to Fort Lauderdale. Normally a 15-day transit, the voyage will be trimmed to 14 days, leaving one day late from San Francisco and skipping a call at Cabo San Lucas. Passengers will get a $500 per stateroom shipboard credit and a $200 certificate for a future cruise. They also will receive overnight accommodations in San Francisco on Sept. 23.

The canceled sailing is expected to shave a nickel per share from Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.’s earnings.
