Hurtigruten to reduce Antarctica capacity
Quote:
Hurtigruten will operate just one ship in Antarctica next season instead of its two-vessel deployment of recent years, Seatrade Insider has learned.
Nordnorge is being redeployed to the Norwegian coastal route, a Hurtigruten spokesman confirmed. He explained the company has more than a century-old contractual obligation to operate 11 vessels on the coastal voyage, and one of its older ships is being sold.
Fram will operate Hurtigruten’s 2008/09 Antarctica program on its own, offering 13-day and 17-day adventures.
The company is in the process of reworking schedules and passenger placements, the spokesman told Seatrade Insider.
