Ian Stevenson - The New Master
Hebridian have announced that Ian Stevenson has been promoted to Master and will soon serve along with Captain Hepburn on board Hebridean Princess.
Ian enjoyed “messing around in boats” from his home town of Oban, and had his first command, aged 9, of his 7'6" rowing dinghy, bought as a wreck and
repaired by himself and his father. As a teenager, he was a keen sailor and fisherman and so with these beginnings, it was a natural step to join the
London & Overseas Freighters as a Cadet in 1993, where he progressed to Third Officer. In 1997, Ian joined the Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency as
Second Officer and was trained as a British Sea Fisheries boarding officer. During this time Ian returned to college to sit his Chief Officer’s exams,
being promoted to First Officer and spending a short time in command of one of their
Ian joined Hebridean in 2001 and has served on both ships. Ian returned to college once more in 2003 to sit his Master’s exams and was shortly
afterwards promoted to Chief Officer. Captain Stevenson is very much looking forward to taking command of Hebridean Princess, where, having
recently moved to Oban, he will be closer to home.
